Three Âé¶¹¹û¶³ students won first place awards in 2009 regional student production competition sponsored by the National Broadcasting Society (NBS).           

Winners are: Jordan Gotfredson, Best Radio Sports Story; Jacqueline Long, Best Radio News Wrap; and Lauren Womack, Best Radio Magazine.

All are journalism/mass communication majors. Their award-winning productions aired on Âé¶¹¹û¶³ radio station WVSU 91.1 FM, and are eligible for national competition.

Gotfredson, a sophomore from Duluth, Ga., won for her sports update segment on the Spotlight Âé¶¹¹û¶³ news program.     

Long, a freshman from Union Point, Ga., won for her report on a student bus trip to Orlando, Fla., in conjunction with the Âé¶¹¹û¶³ vs. Central Florida football game.

Womack, a junior from Spanish Fort, Ala., won for her Spotlight Âé¶¹¹û¶³ program on “The Age of Lincoln.” The segment included an interview with guest lecturer and author Orville Burton.

Twelve colleges in the southeast make up Region 3 of the NBS organization of student and professional broadcasters.
