Many of the area's best high school musicians will be at Âé¶¹¹û¶³ this weekend (Jan. 4-6) as part of the Âé¶¹¹û¶³ Honor Band.

A total of 68 students from 16 high schools in north Alabama were selected for the honor by recommendation of their band directors.

Chair placement auditions and initial rehearsals were held Thursday (JAN. 4). Friday's schedule includes rehearsals and master classes led by Âé¶¹¹û¶³ instrumental music faculty.

The Honor Band will present a concert Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Âé¶¹¹û¶³'s Brock Recital Hall. Dr. James J. Smisek, Âé¶¹¹û¶³ director of bands, will conduct. The public is invited free of charge.

The concert of music by a variety of composers will include Henry Fillmore's popular The Klaxon March, subtitled "March of the Automobiles."

The Honor Band program is sponsored by Âé¶¹¹û¶³'s School of Performing Arts, Division of Music.
