Students from Florence, Birmingham Win Alabama Governor's School Honors Shao-Yu Chen of Florence and Elizabeth Reiser of Birmingham were named outstanding male and female students at the 2009 Alabama Governor's School, which concluded at Âé¶¹¹û¶³ Friday (JUNE 26).
They were chosen by AGS students, faculty and staff on the basis of participation and overall interest shown during the two-week honors program for rising high school seniors. Eighty-two students from 52 high schools in 26 counties participated.
Chen, who attends Florence High School, is the son of Chiong-Yiao Chen.
Reiser, a student at Briarwood Christian School, is the daughter of Sally and Billy Reiser.
