Dennis Sansom began his career at Â鶹¹û¶³ in August 1988 as assistant professor of religion and philosophy. After 34 years, he retired in May as professor of philosophy and chair of the Department of Classics and Philosophy.
“I will miss trying to make an important influence on serious and dedicated students,” Sansom said.
Sansom was actively involved as an adviser to students, both on campus and abroad. He spent three semesters leading students in Â鶹¹û¶³’s study abroad program at the Daniel House in London.
“The many enriching experiences at Daniel House in London and on campus were life changing for me,” Sansom said.
During Sansom’s tenure, his research and comments were featured in dozens of journals, articles and presentations. His expertise was extensive and focused on several topics, such as the foundations of ethics, including the rational, cultural and metaphysical conditions in which an ethical argument may be made.
Sansom’s sons also graduated from Â鶹¹û¶³: Stephen ’06 and Jonathan ’13. He says he is deeply grateful for the positive experiences they had.
